Migrant Workers' Outreach

“When I was a stranger, you opened your doors.” (Mother Theresa)

History of the Migrant Workers' Outreach at Carlisle/Kilbride United Churches by Catherine Swatten and Sharon Banks, February 2021

Offering hospitality to strangers has been a long- standing tradition of our church and our ministry to the migrant workers of our local farms and nurseries has endured for over fifteen years.

Inspired by the initiative of our sister church, Kilbride, and from a small beginning of inviting a few workers to share in our after-worship coffee hour, to twice yearly events attended by over 80 guests, this outreach has flourished and expanded to several other churches. It has also inspired the formation of Migrants Matter Flamborough, an ecumenical group of area communities that now ministers to over 200 seasonal workers.

The link above gives a history of this outreach in Carlisle and Kilbride, our work with Migrants Matter Flamborough and how it is still being administered during the current pandemic conditions.
