Ushering

Thank you for acting as ushers for our worship service. The warmth and effectiveness of our hospitality is essential in making our church family and visitors feel welcome. You are encouraged to wear a name tag.

BEFORE THE SERVICE

1. Arrive by 10:40 a.m. and proceed to the sanctuary for prayer led by the welcomer.

2. Ushers are asked to greet at the bottom of the stairs as people enter the front door and also in the foyer at the side door. (The welcomer for the day is asked to greet in the sanctuary and identify and welcome new people.)

i) Hand out bulletins as people enter, found on the table at the back of the sanctuary.

ii) Tell visiting parents about the nursery care provided in the Christian Education Room and about Sunday School which begins partway through worship. Children are welcome to participate in the nursery or Sunday School or they are also welcome to stay in worship if they prefer.

iii) Help visitors find their way to the sanctuary by going through the Gathering Room and/or upstairs.

3. Find the elevator key in the secretary's mailbox in the Photocopy Room upstairs and be prepared to help someone enter if needed. Instructions for use of the elevator are posted on the elevator door.

DURING THE SERVICE

1. Light the Christ Candle during the first hymn.

2. Take up the offering. Suggested method:

i) Start at the front on both sides and work to the back of the sanctuary.

ii) Wait at the back until the pianist gives the signal for the congregation to stand and sing.

iii) Walk to the front and wait until the Offertory prayer is completed. Place the offering plates on the Communion table and return to your seat.

Offering on Communion Sundays:

i) Take up the offering during the Offertory hymn while the congregation is singing.

ii) Proceed to the front during the hymn – do not wait at the back.

iii) Place the offering plates on the Communion table and return to your seat – do not wait for the Offertory prayer.

3. Put out the Christ Candle during the final hymn.

AFTER THE SERVICE

Tidy the sanctuary and pick up used bulletins.
