The original purpose of the Sewing Circle project was to create cotton face masks to protect vulnerable people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health care professionals cannot use home-made masks. But many nurses and PSWs asked us for cotton scrub caps instead. They needed sturdy, washable hair coverings. They told us it was particularly valuable to have buttons on the side, to hold mask elastic and protect the ears. So we have developed scrub caps in response to these requests.
To date, we have distributed nearly 1,000 scrub caps.
Recipients for scrub caps include health care workers at:
- Hamilton Health Sciences Emergency Dept.
- Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, COVID and maternity wards
- Sunnyside Long Term Care, Kitchener
- Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton
- Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga
- CAMA Woodlands Long Term Care, Burlington
- Forest Heights Long Term Care, Kitchener
- Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto
- Morriston Park Nursing Home, Puslinch
- dental offices in Carlisle
