Ministry with Seniors

The Church provides a community where people of all ages can offer their gifts. Many of the senior members of Carlisle United Church are actively involved in worship, group life, prayer and service. For senior members who are now shut-in or reside in retirement or long term care homes, the Church continues to offer care through visits, cards and phone calls. Our minister leads worship on Sunday afternoon at Alexander Place long term care residence in Waterdown when invited by the chaplain there.

Flamborough Days for Seniors

Flamborough Days for Seniors began in 2008 with leadership from Rock Chapel, Freelton-Strabane and Carlisle-Kilbride United Churches. Seniors from these communities took part in a photovoice project, telling their stories and reflecting on their experience of growing older.

From listening to these voices, a monthly seniors’ day emerged. One of the five congregations hosted the seniors’ event. The program often included singing, gentle movement, a healthy lunch and a topic of interest.
